Most offices today require a dress code. These are often long sleeved, dress shirts and ties for men. Like all clothing, snappy dressing attracts attention and respect. Also, style is often dictated by trends and such trends can come and go with the passing of seasons. Again, replaceability, and therefore affordability, allows people to change clothes that go with the changing style trends.

Another factor to consider is variety. Although it is possible for people to own and cycle just a few articles of dress clothes, changing situations and events at work and other occasions can call for corresponding adaptability in clothing. This adaptability is often afforded by variety and, therefore, the number of available clothes. The number of clothes is largely determined by the financial situation of a person. Affordability of clothing lends itself to a larger number of clothing and thus provides the necessary variety. There is an impression that snappy clothing can open opportunities at work. In some ways, this is true if the competitors for such opportunities offer comparable performance. However, excellence in work and therefore the rewards it provides is not at all related to clothes. This is why some corporations, like Microsoft, do not place such importance to dress codes and instead concentrate of performance and productivity. Still people need to wear clothes and snappy dressing is always preferable. Thus, clothing, specifically mens dress shirts, are necessary regardless of the work environment.
