A traditional, standard toilet has 3.6 gallon tank which is emptied for every flushing. Since people use toilets more times for flushing urine that the normal once a day solid waste disposal, Dual Flush Toilets or Low-Flow toilets are ideal to Save Water. Dual Flush toilets actually allow a single tank of water to be used twice thereby halving the 3.6 gallon standard usage to roughly 1.8 gallons per flush. High efficiency toilets, or HET toilets, like these are required by law to use only a maximum of 1.6 gallons per flush. The main drawback is that to conform to the law, many toilets need to be replaced outright with the newer toilets which can be an expensive option. Also, some people say that these toilets function poorly for solid waste disposal.

Fortunately, there exists now a Dual Flush Conversion kit that can be fitted to standard toilets with having to replace the toilet, just the internal devices. Thus, a Dual flush retrofit kit is more affordable than an outright toilet replacement. Also, this kit allow the user to select from a rinse, or half-flush, mode for urine disposal to a full flush mode for solid waste disposal, which counters most of the negative reactions from people. All it takes to install is a little know how in toilet repair.
